This weekend is entirely focused on completing all of Arashi’s animations, which includes finally completing her attack combos. I hand draw every frame, scan it in, fix the lines (either keeping most of the original drawing or redrawing them with a pen tool), and then shrink it down to the appropriate size. It’s a lot of work, and this is literally the first 6 months I’ve ever animated anything in my life, but I’m really happy with the results – especially with the recent batch. Finally got the chance to show the game in progress to someone other than myself (and you, my readers, vicariously through screenshots), which as a non-RPG fan was a great source of insight on how controls “should” work but for the most part it seemed like I was well on the right track to making something special from his input.
One thing you, my readers, may not know is that I do literally everything for this game. I even write the music – in fact, I think music may be my favorite skill in game development. I know I’m not the most professional or orthodox composer, mainly because I only truly began understanding the concept of mastering in the last few months.
But that’s what I love about this game; it’s forced me to finally use skills, like mastering, animation, and UI programming, that I had been dreading for a decade. I know it’s still a few months off before the real effort behind this game can be appreciated through videos and gameplay demos/playtests, but it’s going to be worth the wait.
