The details here are bit hard to see in this scaled down front pic, so if there’s ever a time to click on the fullsize screenshot this is it. The base particle effect engine is in place, though I will need to program a few more conditional uses for them aside from weather and environmental effects. That said, I’ve added fireflies, rain, and prototype for snow (didn’t draw the texture yet), each with their own movement patterns and frequency. I’m really proud of how much I’ve gotten done regarding the look of the game this weekend, it’s the first time I’ve touched anything other than animation for months. Now that the weekend is done I get angsty I have to go back to work when I could be making even more progress… but until I can figure out what kind of simple games to make on XBLIG quickly to cover my production time I’m stuck using “the grind” until this project is done. I actually have some thoughts about that… but that’s for another blog entry. Anyways, hope you enjoyed the new screenshots for this weekend, sorry that I’m stuck in the opening map still but I haven’t drawn the road and building graphics yet for cities – all in good time 🙂

You’d better get the snow falling to look right!
So many times I look at snow in movies/games/etc. and think, ‘Hrm, that doesn’t look like how real snow falls!’
😛
I’m not sure how snow is supposed to fall honestly, I never really paid much attention when I lived in the midwest, and Los Angeles doesn’t get a real winter ;(
I’ll have to do some research before I tackle this lol
