Working on artwork and music is a double-edged sword. Unlike programming which is rather binary in accomplishment (it works/it doesn’t work), art and music is a long, involved process that instills a feeling of accomplishing nothing for long periods of time especially with a self-imposed deadline. On the other hand, it is more inspiring because you as the creator get a sense of what the finished project will be like and your imagination starts filling in the gaps of the design that you just never got around to working out.
Since I just dropped about 500 dollars on music production software and equipment I figured I’d focus mostly on the games 25 soundtracks (well, 27, 26 is Ket’s Theme for CS or taverns… you’ll see why later, and 27 is a normal battle theme for when things are too quiet in-game). 6 tracks are down (though I’m fine-tuning the mixes today), 19 to go. Well Ket’s theme is actually #7 though I’m trying to decide what a good percussion line for a 6/8 song is… The sample track I posted earlier, Darkness of Leaves, may or may not be part of the game, but either way it won’t sound the same when it’s done.
I’m still drawing Arashi’s animation which will take awhile, actually estimated it’ll take 2 weeks of nonstop work to draw all of her, I just need to be in the right mindset. Other characters and monsters don’t have even close to 1/4th the animation she does, because as the player you will have more actions available. I’d love to share every last detail as I go along but don’t want to spoil the whole game before it’s even playable 😉
