The journey begins

Hello and welcome all who have wandered this way!  My game development studio, Stray Fox Studio, formerly known as Double Kitty Pup Xplosion, is taking its first steps today to reach out for the world beyond.  Is it scary?  A little.

My blog here will be updated as often as I can, and I intend to share as much of my thoughts (which I am sure are more like rants) on the gaming industry as a whole while Stray Fox Studio works on our first title in the Shadowdawn series.  To share in the development process, I will be posting all new concept art here in my blog as I sketch it (finished or not!), or musing over design choices… you know, thinking aloud in a way.

Now for the real news: Shadowdawn: Genesis has officially begun development for Xbox Live and PC.  It will be developed using Microsoft’s XNA 3.1 and programmed with Visual Studio 2008’s Visual C#.  I am using Photoshop, Manga Studio EX, and Illustrator for sprite and tile assets, and Propellerhead Reason to compose the soundtrack, which will include a handful of remixes from the main project, Shadowdawn.  “SDG” (as I like to call it) is an action-RPG inspired by Legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, Ultima VII: The Black Gate, and Ys.  The story will introduce Arashi Kageyama, a young woman who has trained diligently for the last year under the blademaster Tristen Valgus, the Crowned Prince of the Foxfire Empire. She has not become fully recognized as a warrior, and is at constant odds with Tristen’s personal guard, the Kinshutai. One night, while training with her master, the Kinshutai camp is attacked by assassins targeting the Imperial family, and through this trial she will prove not only that she is worthy of the sword, but she will someday become the greatest blademaster the world of Lexis has ever known.

Thanks you again for stopping by, and please visit often as I often have a lot to share!

  1. Awesome so far, how long of a game are you shooting for?

  2. I’m not one to put it into hours, but it’s clearly planned out in 8 Acts or “Levels”. So there’s 8 bosses if that’s any indication hehe.

  3. I like the color pallette & lighting effects you’re using. Reminds me of Saturn era 2D RPG’s.

  4. Thanks, the art is by no mean final but it is a pretty good representation of the vividness I’m going for. 😀 I’m trying to add a lot of light so things don’t look so bland, it is supposed to be a fairly pretty countryside.

  5. Hmm, have you called Brian to see if he’ll voice your villain? 🙂

  6. Actually I should, I just started researching voice actors since I simply shouldn’t do all the voices in my game lol. I wonder if Brian would get into that or not XD
