Arashi Kageyama is a shy but proud girl who has taken up training in the ways of the sword while in the care of the Imperial family of Foxfire. Much to the chagrin of the Emperor's elite retainers - a famous, peacemaking group known as the Kinshutai, she has excelled under the direct tutelage of her appointed master, the Imperial warrior prince Tristen Valgus.

A year ago, while scraping by in a remote outpost village in the distant land of Archon, she was nearly one of countless fatalities of a surprise military raid by a rogue unit from Xalmeise. However, a mysterious black-winged razorcat named Ket had arrived in time to rescue her, as well as Prince Tristen who had been travelling through the valley at the time for his pilgrimage of Ascension.

Grateful to Ket and concerned for the gravely injured Arashi, Tristen invited them both to the Imperial Palace as the girl had nowhere else to go. Concerned that the Xalmeisians were after the Prince, Ket was skeptical; however, Tristen assured him that the attack was merely a coincidence and he was not their intended target.

Upon returning to Seikyo, Tristen offered both Arashi and Ket sanctuary in the palace with the blessings of his father, Emperor Seiichi Valgus. In exchange, the Emperor insisted that Tristen teach Arashi how to fight in their family's secret style, much to everyone's surprise. His father had recognized a fierce fighting spirit and intuition in the girl's eyes, and was confident that this training would be an excellent way to restore her confidence and discipline. Thus, Arashi's foray into fighting soon began under the tutelage of one of the most talented fighters in the country, becoming the envy of the Kinshutai.

Ket remained with Arashi and acts as her guardian, but despite their mutual distrust of others, they have become the closest of friends.

Shinkirouken

Arashi's unique skill, Shinkirouken ("Mirage Blade"), is a fledgling fighting technique evolved from the Valgus fighting style as well as her own invention. As Arashi trained with Tristen over the past year, she discovered an unrivaled aptitude for channeling the energies of technomancy into her weapon, enhancing her agility and strength.
